Dear DAAD scholarship holders, dear DAAD alumni, dear all,

We are over the moon that we can invite you to the next talk in our series on 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Andrea Estefanía Maldonado García (TU Berlin) will speak about rural electrification through mini-grids.

“The Sustainable Development Goals list number 7 as access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy, which is necessary for providing public services, such as education, water, and primary health care. However, the expansion of the grid to remote places is not always economically feasible. The technology available today enables the electrification of these areas through mini-grid solutions. Mini-grids are off-grid low voltage electricity distribution networks within a village supplied at a single point. During this talk I will present a more detailed definition of mini-grids, including the components that conform it, case studies of deployed projects and their faced challenges. Lastly, an overview of companies and institutions located in Germany contributing to the development of mini-grid solutions will be presented.”

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week!

Best regards,

Günter & Martin
