München, 2. December 2019 19:00 to 0:00

Sorry, all tickets are taken. We are keeping a waiting list

The Staatsorchester’s Academy Concerts always offer an unusual programme and first-rate soloists. The RG Munich attends the season’s 2nd Akademiekonzert:

Thomas Adès
Three Dances aus Powder her Face

Erich Wolfgang Korngold
Konzert für Violine und Orchester D-Dur op. 35

Jean Sibelius
Symphonie Nr. 1 e-Moll op. 39

Korngold times two: The Bayerische Staatsoper stages Korngold’s  “Die tote Stadt” for the first time, and it brings one of one of the greatest violin concerts of the 20th century to the stage of the Nationaltheater. There is a gap of a quarter of a century between both works, a time of enormous upheaval. Korngold’s fate is exemplary for the exodus of artists, especially in the German speaking countries.  Korngold escaped to the US and practically invented symphonic film music. His violin concerto amalgamizes classic forms and the sound of Hollywood. (Based on the German text by Staatsoper München.)

For the biographies of Vilde Frang and Thomas Søndergård, please refer to the Staatsoper’s website. Sorry, in German only.
