Ariadne auf Naxos is the third joint work by the composer Richard Strauss and the poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The first version of the opera flopped, the 1916 revision prevailed. The Bayerische Staatsoper has always had a special bond with Richard Strauss. Born in Munich, he was temporarily conductor of the court opera.
