The RG Munich gets to see the wonderful belcanto opera ‘La Sonnambula’ (The Sleepwalker) by Vincenco Bellini (founder of Italian romantic opera) at the lovely Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. In Italian with German surtitles. This opera premiered in 1831 in Milan and is Bellini’s best loved, next to ‘Norma’. Beautiful endless melodies, and even a happy ending! The 2015 production was unanimously judged brilliant at its premiere. It was said to prove that ‘the Gärtnerplatz is not Munich’s “second”, but its “other” opera house’ (NMZ). ‘The musical intensity of this acclaimed production should not leave anyone untouched‘ (Radio Bavaria).
