The regional group Munich enjoys one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most popular operas at the Bayerische Staatsoper: La Traviata, with a libretto based on a story by Alexandra Dumas the younger.

Men don’t fall in love with courtesans, decrees Alfredo’s father when his son moves in with the mortally ill Violetta Valéry. Out of love for Alfredo Violetta leaves him,  and even on her deathbed she dreams of the happiness of true love. La Traviata continues to hold the mirror up to society and its moral hypocrisy.
