The regional group Munich continues its Verdi series at the Bayerische Staatsoper: Rigoletto is the tragic story of the jester at the court of Mantua whose daughter is seduced by Rigoletto’s master, the duke. Rigoletto’s revenge goes horribly wrong. He causes the death of his own daughter.

The opera is considered Verdi’s first true masterpiece and was the starting point of his world fame. Since it premiered in 1851 it has been one of the most popular Italian operas. Who wouldn’t know ‘La donna è mobile’? Verdi himself considered Rigoletto one of his most successful works.
