Although many consider the Staatsoper the number one place for opera in Munich, it would be a grave mistake to underestimate the Gärtnerplatztheater. According to the NMZ, it is “not Munich’s ‘second’, but its ‘other’ opera house.”

We get to attend the new production of the lovely late Romantic opera “Werther” by Jules Massenet, which received high critical acclaim when it premiered in February 2023. www.gaertnerplatztheater.de/en/produktionen/werther.html

The opera stands out for its precise musical-psychological characterization of the protagonists and opulent instrumentation. One doesn’t get to hear French opera all that often in Munich, so it is an experience very much to  look  forward to.
