Heidelberg Talks Online about Science Education for the general Public

The next Heidelberg Talks Online (HTO) session takes place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 8 – 9.30 pm CEST (GMT/UTC +2).

The topic will be:


Why YOU should care about public engagement with science: From science literacy to misinformation


The speaker will be Dr. Bruce V. Lewenstein, Professor of Science Communication and University Ombuds at Cornell University. He received an A.B. degree in general studies in the humanities from the University of Chicago as well as an M.A. and a PhD in history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania and served as chair of Cornell’s Department of Science & Technology Studies from 2014-2021. In 2025, the former Fulbright scholar was the inaugural winner of the PCST Award for advancement of science communication as a professional field, given by The Global Network of Public Communication of Science & Technology. Trained as a historian of science, he works across the field of public communication of science and technology, including informal science education, citizen science and communication training for scientists. He is also active in international activities that contribute to education and research on public communication of science and technology, especially in the developing world.
