Become a Member
Anyone who shares our values and the values of the DAAD in our commitment to international and intercultural exchange can join DAAD Alumni & Friends. We currently number approximately 1,200 members in Germany and around the world, most of whom are DAAD alumni who have previously held a DAAD scholarship. DAAD Alumni & Friends is a registered non-profit association (membership numbers correct as of January 2024).

Member benefits
Joining DAAD Alumni & Friends is a chance to stay in touch with the DAAD. You can give something back and share the DAAD’s international spirit.
As a DAAD Alumni & Friends member, you can:
- participate in our rich programme of events and organise your own events.
- network with current and former DAAD funding recipients.
- connect with others across subject disciplines and generations.
- volunteer to help shape the work of a thriving organisation.
As a new member, you’ll even get a little welcome gift from us when you join! In addition to this, DAAD Alumni & Friends members receive our alumni magazine “LETTER” and are warmly invited to the annual general meeting.
Membership fees
Annual membership of DAAD Alumni & Friends costs €50. A reduced rate of €25 annually is available to all students (including PhD students).
If you feel able to, you can make an additional monthly donation on top of your membership fee to become a Sponsor of DAAD Alumni & Friends. You can change the amount of your donation at any time.
DAAD Alumni & Friends is a recognised non-profit association. Membership fees and donations are tax-deductible.
How do I join?
Apply online
You can apply to join DAAD Alumni & Friends by completing the online application form. If you want to pay your membership fees by direct debit, you can complete a SEPA mandate during the application process. Please send the signed form to us by email or post at:

Trial membership
A free trial membership is a great way to see what it’s like to be a member of DAAD Alumni & Friends. A trial membership lasts for one year and comes with no strings attached. It costs nothing to become a trial member of DAAD Alumni & Friends but you still get to take part in all our events and experience all the benefits of being part of our network. At the end of the year you decide if you want to convert to a standard membership or end your membership.
