Events

At DAAD Alumni & Friends we are passionate about creating opportunities to discover Germany and network with people from around the world. Our Regional Groups arrange a varied programme for all kinds for current and former DAAD scholarship holders.

Cultural activities include visits to museums or the theatre, while the sports on offer range from hiking to canoeing and climbing. Academic meetings such as colloquia, conferences and lectures are also a vital part of our diary of events.

City Visits

While Regional Groups organise local events, DAAD Alumni & Friends arranges excursions to cities across Germany and even further afield. These trips are a chance for DAAD scholarship holders to experience Germany’s rich variety of cities and towns and find out about our fascinating history, culture and politics.

Homestays

At DAAD Alumni & Friends, “welcome” isn’t just something we say. It’s at the heart of our whole culture. International scholarship holders get to experience this warm welcome thanks to our members and other hosts who invite them into their homes and share their “Heimat“, that unique sense of belonging to a place which is so precious to Germans.

By sitting down to eat together and taking excursions to nearby attractions, the Homestay programme is a unique opportunity for scholarship holders to experience home life and local culture across the whole of Germany. Homestays are a chance for DAAD scholarship holders to get to know much more about Germany, the people who live here, the country and its traditions.

By sharing activities and time together, scholarship holders and hosts alike gain a deeply personal insight into their respective cultures. Thanks to the homestays programme many current and former DAAD scholarship holders forge lasting friendships.

Emergency Financial Support

Living in a foreign culture a long way from home can sometimes mean having to face challenging situations. The DAAD Alumni & Friends emergency financial support fund is there for times such as these so DAAD scholarship holders who find themselves in difficulty can get help.

The fact that we provide relatively modest amounts of money means our help gets through more quickly, and that’s often what matters most when times are tough.

If you are a DAAD scholarship holder and are facing financial difficulties, please contact our Head Office.
