Heidelberg Talks Online about Flourishing Lives during Crises

The next Heidelberg Talks Online (HTO) session takes place on Friday, April 17, 2026, 7 – 8.30 pm CEST (GMT/UTC +2).
The topic will be:
Flourishing Lives – Ethics for All in a World of Crises
The speaker will be Prof. Dr. Christiane Woopen, Director of the Center for Life Ethics at the University of Bonn, Germany. After studying Human Medicine and Philosophy at the universities of Cologne, Bonn and Hagen, she has led national and international research projects in ethics, neuroethics and ethics of AI. Prof. Woopen is also involved in policy advocacy and has served, among others, as President of the Global Summit of National Ethics Councils and Chair of both the German Ethics Council and the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies. She is also a member of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee. During the pandemic Mrs. Woopen was a member of the expert advisory group of the International Science Council “Unprecedented and Unfinished – COVID-19 and Implications for National and Global Policy”. She is also a member of national and international academies of sciences and arts and was awarded both the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class (by the Federal Republic of Germany) and the Order of Merit of North Rhine- Westphalia. Together with her interdisciplinary team at the Center for Life Ethics she is dedicated to analyzing and shaping the technologization, economization, ecologization and globalization of individual and social life and the transformation processes associated with them.
