Heidelberg Talks Online about International Economic Law in the Trump Era

The next Heidelberg Talks Online (HTO) session takes place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 8 – 9.30 pm CEST(GMT/UTC +2).

The topic will be:


International Economic Law in the Trump Era


The speaker will be DAAD and Heidelberg alumnus Dr. Christian Riffel, Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. After passing the First State Examination at the University of Heidelberg and receiving a Master of Law degree (both with distinction) from Europa-Institut of Saarland University, the German national obtained a PhD in Law (Magna cum Laude) from the University of Bern/Switzerland. He has gained experience at an international law firm in Venezuela, the German Embassy in Chile, the Max Planck Institute in Munich and at Edinburgh Law School, among others. Dr. Riffel also serves as a listed arbitrator for EU trade agreements and Honorary Consul of Germany in the South Island of New Zealand.
