Munich, 8. April 2020 19:00 to 0:00

The RG Munich attends the State Ballet’s new production ‘Coppélia’ in the Bavarian National Theater. https://www.staatsoper.de/stueckinfo/coppelia.html

The ballet premiered in 1870, with music by Léo Delibes and after E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story ‘The Sandman.’ What we see is a cheerful version of this originally dark story: The sinister ‘Frankenstein’ is called Dr. Coppelius, the doll he created, which young Franz falls in love with, Coppélia. In the end, Franz’s fiancee Swanilda puts an end to the bizarre spectacle, and the wedding is celebrated while Coppélia crumbles to dust in the arms of her creator.

Roland Petit’s choreography from 1975 humorously addresses questions which are as relevant today as they were yesterday, about blind love and the idealization of the perfect person.

20 student tickets (under 30 years old), registration opens once the invitation has been mailed.
