Munich, 25. February 2018 12:45 to 0:00

Our little hiking tour combines nature and history in a very pleasant way. We travel by S-Bahn and bus to the picturesque hamlet of  Leutstetten. From there we walk to Starnberg, on the lake of the same name (the place in Germany with the highest ratio of millionaires), via a Roman villa from the year 200, through a forest and the Leutstetten moor. If we are lucky we will get a wonderful view of the alps as an extra.

In Leutstetten we will see a castle of the Wittelsbacher which is still in possession of this Bavarian dynasty – only from outside, as it is not open to the public.

When we arrive at the lake we will have time to visit the small Starnberger See Museum  which houses interesting exhibitions, e.g. about the Wittelsbacher and ‘their’ lake – King Ludwig II drowned in it in 1866  – and the Munich cititzens’ discovery of lake as a favorite summering place. The oldest farm house (built around 1520) of the lake region which is still in its original location can also be seen, including its historic interior.

There is a café in the museum and another one right by the lake, near the S-Bahn station, where we can replenish our batteries before returning to Munich.

This tour is easy and requires no special equipment or fitness, apart from sturdy and waterproof shoes. Suitable for children but not for baby carriages.
