Regional Group Ruhr
Cultural Metropolis with (Industrial) History
Go boating on the lakes, discover avant-garde international art, visit the most beautiful colliery in the world – you can do all these things in the Ruhr area. We look forward to showing you our region.
At the beginning of each semester, we invite you to a welcome meeting. Almost every month, there is an opportunity for you to meet again. You can help organise the programme yourselves: we meet for informal gatherings, visit museums and cultural events or go hiking and travelling all over Germany.
Taking part in the Freundeskreis events has been very beneficial to me. Not only I enjoyed the time, but I have made friends with locals and people from all over the world.

Bochum, Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg – the Ruhr regional group includes the whole Ruhr area. That means our events take place in different towns. Take the opportunity and use your train ticket: discover the many facets of Germany’s most prominent metropolitan area together with us. Trust us, it’s really worthwhile! You will see for yourselves….
By the way, children are always welcome at our events. We wish to create opportunities for exchange by offering special events for families. The “Deutschland hautnah – Germany behind the scenes” programme is only offered on an informal basis by the Ruhr regional group, but upon request we will be happy to look for host families.
