Regional Group Aachen
DAAD scholarship holders meet Charlemagne
Aachen’s location close to the point where the borders of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet lends this historic city a strongly European character. Its most famous ruler was Charlemagne, who endowed the city with a unique monument in the form of its cathedral. As your Regional Group, we want to give you the chance to experience the rich diversity of this city with its highly regarded technical university and varied tapestry of surrounding areas, so we arrange excursions, walks and tours of areas of interest. We are a sociable bunch too, with get-togethers to welcome people who are new to Aachen, themed cultural events and games evenings. Often we arrange our activities with Regional Groups from Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn, all of which are easily reached from here.
Check out our Events Diary for more information and come along –we can’t wait to meet you.
Here at the Aachen Regional Group, we’re always happy to help.

In Summer 2015, I got the great opportunity to go to Tallinn with the DAAD RISE Worldwide program. After exchanging wonderful experiences with interesting people from all over the world, I would like to support our regional group in Aachen in return and make the stay of all participants a little bit more memorable. - Sabine Englich
A scholarship to study abroad means much more than academic exchange. The memories of my time in the USA are some of my favourite and most formative. I’d love to introduce you to my hometown of Aachen and my homeland of Germany. But I also care about creating a space to get to know people from Germany and other DAAD scholarship holders. By doing this, I want to play my part in building sustainable international networks so your time in Germany is not just about making memories but also forging lifelong friendships.
If you have any suggestions of your own or if you’d like to organise your own event, please get in touch – we’ll be happy to help.
