Regional Group Berlin – Brandenburg
We are former DAAD scholarship holders from Germany and elsewhere. We address DAAD scholarship holders and alumni in Berlin and Brandenburg. Discover the many facets of our region and join our activities!
News about what we organize are sent to all scholarship holders and DAAD-Freundeskreis members in Berlin and Brandenburg by e-mail. If you are among this group and not currently receiving information, you are always welcome to contact us! We are also open to suggestions for events and welcome exchange!
The Multifaceted Capital Region
Observe politics in the Reichstag, meet other countries’ representatives, stroll around the museums, or experience multicultural Kreuzberg, parks and castles in Potsdam or the lakes in Brandenburg. We would like to show you our region and your host country, the history and whatever happens right now in Berlin, Potsdam, Cottbus, Frankfurt/Oder and many other places in the Berlin-Brandenburg area. We do so by joint discussion events, walks, visiting galleries, gaining insights into the art scene, or by taking trips, where we go paddling or walking and discover nature. We also take a look inside governmental institutions like the Federal Foreign Office, have discussions with ambassadors, visit public broadcasting corporations and organise trips to other German regions or neighbouring countries. We try to give you a different view of the city and the region and also look forward to your suggestions!
Join our monthly get-together!
We meet for our regular informal gathering in the “Café Hardenberg” in Berlin-Charlottenburg on every first Monday of the month. There you can meet members of the DAAD-Freundeskreis, scholarship holders and alumni for an informal exchange and find new friends. By the way, since 1999!
Where: Every first Monday of a month at 7 pm at Café Hardenberg – Hardenbergstrasse 10, 10623 Berlin.
Team
We are a team of active members, who coordinates activities of the regional group Berlin-Brandenburg:
Matthias Gelbrich:
“I am involved because I would like to help foreign scholarship holders get in touch with one another and I would like to show them different aspects of their host country. And, on the other hand, at our monthly informal gathering, I learn a lot about different countries through the experiences and perspectives of the scholarship holders.”
Stefan Junne:
“Due to the variety of events for scholarship holders and alumni, the DAAD-Freundeskreis offer something for everyone while the connecting part of all, the experience made in foreign countries and the international background, is always very stimulating.”

Sebastian Kemper:
“My time abroad had a big influence on my life, and it was a fascinating time. With my involvement I would like to help that the scholarship holders experience such a great experience as well, and that they will positively look back on their time in Berlin.”
Prathamesh Khorgade:
“Berlin, as multicultural as it looks, is difficult to find connections and friends. Being a young member of DAAD Freundeskreis Berlin, I am more than happy to employ my experiences in bringing together new people and am ecstatic to meet them myself.”
Günter Kipfmüller:
“Our network of DAAD alumni and you, the current DAAD scholarship holders, is like a window to the world and to the world of arts and science. It is a wonderful idea to make this network ever denser and wider, and I am very glad to be part of this idea.”
Martin Konvička:
“I was able to study linguistics at Freie Universität Berlin with a DAAD scholarship, but it was the events organized by the DAAD-Freundeskreis that helped me to get to know the city and the local people better. Now I’m involved in the Circle of Friends to make this experience possible for other scholarship holders.”

Richard Schubert:
“International exchange is very important for me, and DAAD Alumni & Friends are the perfect place to meet interesting people from a great variety of disciplines and countries.”

Timeea Pacala:
“The DAAD scholarship was very important for me. I joined the DAAD-Freundeskreis to pass on some of my experiences to other scholars, but also to be able to have new, wonderful experiences in the very interesting and diverse community. The international exchange and the various events were always a lot of fun and very enriching and exciting.”
